Does your website make sense to your customers?

Your website makes sense to you, but does it make sense to your customers?

You know that frustration of clicking in a site and not finding what we need, going round in circles… or worse, waiting so long for it to load that we give up and look elsewhere.

I was researching for a client today and landed on a site that took a full minute to load (yes, I timed it!). That was a big black mark for me. Your customers are the same. No one has that kind of patience.

These days, you’ve got one second (yep, they used to say it was three!) to grab someone’s attention. That first glimpse of your website has to tell them who you are, what you do, and why they should stay.

Here’s a quick test:
👉 Open your website on your phone (or get a friend to).
Can you instantly tell what you do and how to get in touch?
If not, it might be time for a few tweaks.

Make sure your website is working hard for you

Your website should be your hardest-working employee; looking good, available 24/7, and never needing a coffee break!

But like any good employee, it needs a clear job description.

When I’m building or refreshing a website, one of the first questions I ask is:
What do you want your website to do for you?

Is it to make sales, generate leads, build awareness, educate… or a mix of all those?

Whatever the answer, nailing your top priority will shape how your website is designed and how it performs.

Here are a few essentials every website should have:

  • A clear call to action

  • Simple, easy navigation (please, not 20 menu items 🙃)

  • Forms that actually go somewhere

  • An email sign-up - with a proper welcome email attached!

  • An easy-to-find contact page

  • FAQs - perfect for cutting down on tyre kickers

If you can stretch to automations or integrations that save time (bookings, CRMs, email replies), use them!

I’m a big believer that simple things done well make the biggest difference and they don’t need to cost the earth.
