I’ve got social media - do I need a website?

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve heard business owners say, “I don’t need a website — I’ve got social media.”

Here’s the catch: it’s not really your social media. It belongs to Meta, Elon, TikTok, or whichever platform you’re on. A website, on the other hand, is truly yours – what we marketers call “owned media.” Same goes with email.

With social media, you’re always playing by someone else’s rules. Your account could be blocked, removed, or buried by an algorithm change. Overnight, your reach and followers could disappear.

Would you take that kind of risk in any other part of your business? Probably not.

That’s why, if you ask me, the answer is simple: yes, you do need a website. It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive – even a clear, simple site makes you look professional and trustworthy.
